This interactive seminar will involve a 45 minute seminar followed by half an hour of discussion of the theory, which may include discussion of deidentified cases. The topic areas will be:

• Important concepts in working with children

• Setting up child work well

• Observing and understanding children

• Parent support and collaboration

• An outline of intervention

There is some flexibility and capacity to respond to the group needs. Intervention will not be discussed in depth as there are many different orientations to intervention. However, there could be some additional sessions added for more discussion of intervention if desired.

My own training is based primarily in child psychotherapy, a psychoanalytically oriented tradition. However, I am informed by a variety of approaches including mindfulness, compassion focused therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy and child-centred play therapy. Culture, power, difference and diversity are also considerations that I inevitably bring into my work as a therapist and supervisor.
